Leaders in Water Conservation & Protection

Lance Armstrong and a few other famous and wealthy water hogs were named recently in the Austin American Statesman for being the biggest water wasters. At the Barton Springs & Edwards Aquifer 2008 Groundwater Stewardship Awards luncheon, several people were honored for their efforts in water preservation and conservation proving that some people do "get it". Jack Dahlstrom and his family were honored for preserving 2,200 acres of their land for water quality protection as well as setting aside 370 acres for public access and education. The Grenga Family os Sunset Valley were honored for their low water use- the lowest in Sunset Valley. The family credits their "home-spun" rainwater collection system which includes both non-potable and filtered and purified water for drinking. Nico Hauwert was honored for his years of work in research. Bill & Shirley Burrell were honored due to exemplary operation of their well in conserving water as well as participating in consrvation education activities & town hall meetings. see the complete JANUARY - APRIL 2009 AQUIFER BULLETIN
